Rajnath Singh will inaugurate Shyok Tunnel, invisible in satellite images!
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will e-inaugurate the important tunnel of Shyok located on the Durbuk–Shyok–Daulat Beg Oldie (DS-DBO) road in Leh on Sunday. The Defense Minister is scheduled to reach Leh at 10:45 am and formally e-inaugurate the tunnel at 11 am. This tunnel is considered very important from the strategic point of view, because it will facilitate the movement of the army on the northern borders of India and will also provide better connectivity to the local citizens throughout the year.
According to the pre-determined programme, Rajnath Singh was to inaugurate the tunnel after reaching Shyok, but in view of bad weather, the venue was changed to Rinchen Auditorium Hall in Leh.
This approximately 982 meter long tunnel is being considered a big achievement for the area, where the problem of landslides and road closure during monsoon has been common for a long time. After the commencement of the tunnel, the traffic to the army’s forward posts, remote villages and strategic places will now be more smooth and uninterrupted.
During this period, Defense Minister Singh will also e-inaugurate several major projects constructed by the Border Roads Organization (BRO) in Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir and other states. In Ladakh alone, 41 new projects are to be given the green signal, reflecting the central government’s commitment to strengthening connectivity, security and development in the border areas.
Officials have said that the structure of the Shyok Tunnel has been designed in such a way that it will not be visible in satellite images. The roof of the tunnel has been made almost invisible from satellite view by giving it a shape similar to the surrounding natural land, which further increases its strategic security.
Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta will also be present at the inauguration ceremony along with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. The project is expected to provide better connectivity and strengthen the security infrastructure in the area.
