India ensures LPG-LNG supply through alternative routes amid West Asia war crisis
The ongoing war in West Asia has caused disruptions in energy supplies. There has been tremendous tension due to the war on the Strait of Hormuz, which leads out of the Gulf countries, through which 20 percent of the world’s fuel is supplied. Meanwhile, India has resorted to alternative import routes to maintain the availability of LPG and natural gas. According to government officials, the country has secured additional supplies of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) through non-Hormuz routes, which is scheduled to reach India soon.
India has adopted a strategy of increasing energy imports from other sources including America, Canada so as to reduce dependence on West Asia. Meanwhile, following the instructions of the government, Indian refineries have also accelerated LPG production domestically. According to officials, the production of LPG in the country has been increased by about 10 percent to meet the domestic demand.
Reliance Industries is playing a major role in this direction and has implemented a plan to increase LPG production to the maximum level at its Jamnagar Refinery. “At a time of volatile global energy markets, ensuring Indian households have uninterrupted access to the fuel they need remains a national priority,” the company said in a statement.
The company further said that LPG production is being maximized at its refining and petrochemical complex at Jamnagar in line with government guidelines. “Reliance Industries is taking proactive steps as per government directives to increase LPG production from its refining and petrochemicals complex at Jamnagar – the world’s largest integrated refining hub. Our teams are working around the clock to optimize refinery operations and increase LPG production so that supply to the domestic market remains stable and reliable,” the statement said.

Additionally, natural gas produced from the KG‑D6 basin is being diverted to ensure supply to priority sectors.
Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said India is strengthening its energy security by diversifying sources of energy imports from outside West Asia. He assured citizens that gas supply in the country remains stable.
The minister said that the government has ensured that domestic consumers continue to get full supply of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Piped Natural Gas (PNG). At the same time, about 70-80 percent gas of its needs is being provided to the industrial areas also.
He said the government aims to ensure affordable and uninterrupted energy supply to households and key economic sectors across the country, so that India’s energy security and domestic supply remains unaffected despite the global crisis.
