Kumaraswamy targets Congress on Deve Gowda case!

Union Heavy Industries and Steel Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Monday targeted Congress leaders. He said this regarding the comments of Congress leaders on the news of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda not getting a chance for Rajya Sabha and termed AICC General Secretary and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala as an extortionist.

Kumaraswamy launched a scathing attack on Randeep Singh Surjewala, accusing him of political hypocrisy and saying he should remember the past deeds of Congress before commenting on JD(S).

He alleged that Surjewala has turned Karnataka into an ATM through extortion. Instead of talking about Deve Gowda, he should focus on ending the internal fights and conspiracies within his party and government.

He alleged that in 1997, Congress leaders had conspired to remove HD Deve Gowda from the post of Prime Minister, which he termed a betrayal and said that the people of Karnataka have raised questions on this for decades.

He also referred to the political events of 2019 in Karnataka and alleged that despite forming an alliance, Congress had stabbed him in the back by toppling the coalition government.

Kumaraswamy also accused the Congress of adopting double standards and said that the party pretends to be secular on the outside but practices caste-based and opportunistic politics internally. He criticized Congress’ alliances in other states including Tamil Nadu and accused them of opportunism after the elections.

Defending Deve Gowda, Kumaraswamy described him as a great national leader and the only Prime Minister from Karnataka and said it was wrong to politicize his name for electoral gains.

He also accused Congress leaders of political opportunism and internal factionalism and asked them to focus on their party’s issues instead of targeting Deve Gowda and JD(S).

The statement comes amid the ongoing political war of words between JD(S) and Congress following discussion on Rajya Sabha nomination and alliance situations in Karnataka politics.

On the other hand, Karnataka Congress President BK Hariprasad, while speaking to the media in Bengaluru on Monday, termed the BJP’s alleged decision of not giving Rajya Sabha ticket to former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda as a betrayal of the people of the state. He said that this is not only an insult to Deve Gowda and JD(S) but an insult to the entire state.

Commenting on the BJP leadership’s decision of not nominating Deve Gowda to the Rajya Sabha, Hariprasad said that the BJP and NDA alliance, after taking the support of JD(S) to pass several laws, had betrayed Deve Gowda in a way that no one could have imagined. This is an insult to the people of Karnataka.

He said that the people of the state will give a befitting reply in the coming days and political consequences of such actions will also be revealed. Meanwhile, Randeep Singh Surjewala on Monday criticized the BJP and JD(S) leadership over the news of Deve Gowda not being nominated to the Rajya Sabha and termed the development as politically shocking and eye-opening.
