Dinesh Chandimal created history by scoring 16th test century, equaled the unique record of Sachin Tendulkar.

Sri Lankan right-handed batsman Dinesh Chandimal created history by scoring a brilliant century in the first innings of the second and final Test against New Zealand at the Galle International Cricket Stadium. Chandimal, who came to bat at number 3, scored the 16th Test century of his career. This is the sixth century in Galle and the first against New Zealand. Chandimal played an innings of 116 runs in 208 balls with the help of 16 fours. With this he made some special records.

New Zealand is the ninth team against which Chandimal has scored a Test century. He has become the fifth Sri Lankan and 15th player in the world to score a century against 9 different teams in Test cricket. Before him, only Sachin Tendulkar, Steve Waugh, Marvan Atapattu, Rahul Dravid, Adam Gilchrist, Mahela Jayawardene, Jacques Kallis, Gary Kirsten, Brian Lara, Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara, Younis Khan, Angelo Mathews and Kane Williamson had achieved this feat.

Apart from this, he has jointly reached fourth position in terms of scoring most Test centuries in Test cricket for Sri Lanka. He equaled Tillakaratne Dilashan, Marvan Atapattu, Dimuth Karunaratne and Angelo Mathews. All these players have scored 16-16 test centuries.

Let us tell you that Chandimal has scored Test centuries while batting from number 3 to number 7.

After winning the toss and coming to bat first, the Sri Lankan team got a shock in the very first over. After which Chandimal along with Dimuth Karunaratne added 122 runs for the second wicket, while for the third wicket they made a partnership of 97 runs with Mathews.
