8th Pay Commission: New salary of ₹30,000 basic pay people?

New Delhi. The discussion regarding the 8th Pay Commission for central employees has intensified. The biggest question is how much can the new salary increase and what will be the role of the fitment factor behind it. Last time, in the 7th Pay Commission, the fitment factor was kept at 2.57, due to which the minimum basic pay increased from ₹7,000 to ₹18,000.

Now several estimates are being made on the possible fitment factor for the 8th Pay Commission—1.92, 2.08 and 2.86. However, the government has not made any official announcement yet. In this situation, on the basis of probable calculations, it can be estimated how much the salary of the employees can increase.

Probable fitment factor in 8th Pay Commission: 1.92

It is being said in many analyzes that the fitment factor in the 8th Pay Commission can remain in the range of the old pay commissions i.e. around 1.90–1.92. Therefore, here an estimate of 1.92 has been taken on the basis of ₹ 30,000 basic pay.

Possible new salary for those with ₹30,000 basic pay (based on ₹1.92) If the current basic pay of an employee is ₹30,000, and the fitment factor is considered to be 1.92, then the new basic pay will be: New basic salary = 30,000 × 1.92 = ₹57,600, that is, as per an estimate, an increase of about ₹27,600 is possible in the basic pay.

Level 5 example (as you provided)

Current basic pay in Level 5: ₹29,200, Potential new basic pay (based on 1.92): ₹29,200 × 1.92 = ₹56,064, implying that the average basic pay may increase by about 90–95%, if the fitment factor is indeed fixed in this range.

DA, HRA and other allowances will also be affected

Increase in basic pay will have a direct impact not only on basic but also on Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance, Pension, everything. This means that overall in-hand salary will increase significantly.

Government announcement still pending

It is important to note that no official notification has been released yet on 8th Pay Commission and Fitment Factor. So this entire calculation is just an estimate based on a possible fitment factor.
