Rs 8,000 crore needed to implement One Nation One Election scheme, Election Commission informs Ram Nath Kovind team

Latest News :- The central government is planning to hold simultaneous elections (one country and one election) for the Lok Sabha and all the state assemblies. A committee was formed under the chairmanship of former President Ramnath Kovind to investigate the matter. The Union Cabinet approved the report submitted by the committee last March 18. Accordingly, it seems that the related (Political Charter Amendment) Bill will be introduced in the upcoming winter session of Parliament. Due to strong opposition from opposition parties, amending the Constitution to implement this scheme will be a challenging matter. Apart from this, the government also has to face logistical problems ranging from voter lists to electronic voting machines and sending election officials to the polling stations.

And in this regard, the Election Commission has submitted a report to the committee led by Ram Nath Kovind in January. It states that: Substantial time is required to implement a single election plan in a country. Rs 7,951 crore will be required to implement the One Country One Election scheme in 2029. Also, the number of voter registration centers across the country should be increased to 13.6 lakh by 2029. 53.8 lakh Voting Machines (PU), 38.7 lakh Control Machines (CU) and 41.6 lakh VVPOTs will be required. Now 30.8 Lakh PU, 22.1 Lakh CU, 23.8 Lakh VVPod devices are in stock. Of these, 3.6 lakh BUs and 1.25 lakh CUs will be exhausted by 2029. Therefore additional 26.5 lakh BU, 17.8 lakh CU and 17.8 lakh VVPOD devices will have to be purchased. It says so.
