What dominated the conversation at the yearly Meta Connect event by the company on Wednesday were the Meta AI features. The firm rolled out the new voice chat feature and ushered in new artificial intelligence features in the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. The social media giant also expanded the experimental feature dubbed ‘Imagine’ on Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger. As seen early in the year, it allowed users the ability to redo their profile picture in different styles generated with AI. The feature is now being rolled out to all users. The company is also experimenting a feature to automatically generate pictures as well as suggest users to share them on to their feed.
Recently, details on how the work of this function would go were mentioned in the newsroom of the giant social media firm. So far, users can generate images from any given text prompt using Meta AI. Users can also share an image as input and ask AI to generate images based on that. However, the company has not allowed users to use their images of their profile picture to generate images.
This is now changing as at the Meta Connect 2024, the company announced that the ‘Imagine’ feature will be available to all Facebook and Instagram users and this feature will allow users to create posts as well as Stories.
In simpler words, users can now ask Meta AI to ‘Imagine’ them as a superhero, a royal monarch, or an astronaut, and the AI will do just that. Based on the images shared by the company, it appears that the AI-generated images will not be too realistic and rather look digitally made. Meta also adds AI-generated watermarks on these images as well.
Finally, users on Instagram DM and Messenger will have the ability to employ AI to generate personalized chat themes. While the background color and chat bubble were things that could be altered earlier, this will add a whole other level of personalization.
Additionally, the company is also testing a recommendation feature based on the Imagine feature. Meta plans to show auto-generated AI images of the user’s profile picture in the feed of both Instagram and Facebook. Here, the images will be associated with the interest of the user or the current trends. In case the user likes the image, they can share it on their feed or Stories. One can also tap on the image to make changes to the suggested image.
