Canada has become the least contributing country among NATO members, report

Canada has become one of the least contributing countries to this 32-member military alliance.

NATO Country News: अOn Monday, on the eve of the NATO summit being hosted by US President Joe Biden, a major American media organization said that Canada has become one of the least contributing countries to this 32-member military alliance.

Leading US media organization 'Politico' said, “Over the past several years, Ottawa has become one of the least contributory countries to the 32-member alliance.” It has failed to meet domestic military spending targets, has failed to provide funding to buy new equipment and has no plan in this regard.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has reached Washington to attend this year's North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit, which will formally begin on Tuesday.

Trudeau's office said during the meetings here he will highlight Canada's contributions to NATO's collective defense efforts across Europe.

Politico said Canada, one of NATO's 12 founding members, had signed a pledge in 2014 to spend two percent of gross domestic product (GDP) on defence. NATO members have made slow progress in achieving this goal, but this year 23 out of 32 NATO members will achieve this goal in view of the increasing threat on the alliance's eastern border due to the plans of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to 'Politico', NATO members may push Canada to raise more cash during the NATO summit.

“What's happening now is everyone is spending more while Canada isn't even trying,” the media outlet quoted Max Bergman, a former State Department official, as saying.
