Garhwal and Rangers' victory campaign begins

New Delhi, September 26 (IANS). In the opening match of the third DSA Premier League, defending champions Garhwal Heroes performed as per their reputation and defeated United India 6-0. In the other match of the day, defending runners-up Royal Rangers registered a 2-0 win over National United Sports Club.

The defeated teams have been promoted from the senior division. Both started with defeat in DPL. Ishanbok and man of the match Milind Negi scored two goals each in Garhwal's victory. Piyush Bhandari and Marvin Khamonthang scored one goal each. Royal Rangers' goals were scored by man of the match Ashutosh Thapliyal and Shikhar KS.

DSA President Anuj Gupta inaugurated the league. DSA Vice President Rizwan Ul Haq, League Sub Committee Chairman Vikram Jeet and Convener Hargopal were also present on this occasion. The first match of the league was officiated by nationally renowned referee Rahul Gupta.

Garhwal Heroes, who performed brilliantly in the I-League, may have easily defeated a weaker opponent but the opening match failed to impress a handful of football lovers. Perhaps because it was the first match of both the teams.

The start with a big win was a morale boost for the winners but the start of the Premier League was not memorable for United India. The situation was probably similar with the Royal Rangers and the National. The Royal Rangers did not find an easy opponent like Garhwal. National United fought hard till leaving the field, while United India's front line could not even test the Garhwal bullet.

Schedule for Friday, September 27: CISF-Tarun Sangha at 1:00 pm

Vatika- Hindustan 3:00 pm.
