“With the combination of Gauti bhai and myself, we can bring about a turnaround for KL Rahul”: Abhishek Nayar
India National Cricket Team’s assistant coach Abhishek Nayar is hopeful that head coach Gautam Gambhir, along with him, will change things for KL Rahul, who is struggling for runs. He mentioned that Rahul is finding his feet after a long time in the most extended format and only needs direction.
Rahul is fighting for his place in the team after below-par performances across formats. He couldn’t get going in the IPL, ODIs against Sri Lanka, the Duleep Trophy, and the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh.
“You don’t need inspiration when you play for India. It is about direction. KL Rahul understands his game very well,” Abhishek Nayar said.
“There are times when a player is trying to find his feet. He played good knocks in South Africa. We are hopeful that with the combination of Gauti bhai (Gautam Gambhir) and myself, we can bring about a turnaround for him,” he added.
Rahul hit four boundaries in 19 balls in the second innings of the opening game against Bangladesh. Nayar said that Rahul was looking positive.
“He batted well in the second innings of the previous game and showed his talent. His approach was promising.”
India and Bangladesh will play the second Test in Kanpur from Friday.
