The Asia Pacific Deaf Sports Confederation announced on Thursday that the 10th Asia Pacific Deaf Games, originally scheduled to be held in Tehran next month, have been relocated to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The decision to change the venue was made due to the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
The Games have also been rescheduled and will now take place from December 1 to December 8 later this year in Kuala Lumpur.
Additionally, the federation has decided to reduce the number of sports disciplines, citing limited preparation time and insufficient entries in some events.
There will now be only nine sports disciplines: Athletics, Bowling, Badminton, Chess, Football, Judo, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, and Wrestling.
The exclusion of shooting from the roster could impact India’s medal tally, as they are one of the top teams in this sport.
However, they will still contend for strong results in Wrestling, Chess, and Athletics.
India is currently tied for 8th place in the overall medal tally of the Asia Pacific Deaf Games, with a total of 26 medals: 5 gold, 10 silver, and 11 bronze.
