Sitharaman met Uzbekistan President

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met President of Uzbekistan S. Mirziyoyev here yesterday on the sidelines of the 9th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
During this, Mrs. Sitharaman congratulated Mr. Mirziyoyev on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and also thanked Uzbekistan for participating in the third Voice of Global South Summit to be held in August 2024.

Mr Mirziyoyev welcomed the Finance Minister and noted that India and Uzbekistan have deep historical ties and assured Uzbekistan's support to further strengthen bilateral relations.
Smt Sitharaman told the President that the Deputy Prime Minister and Also informed about the same meetings with the Minister of Trade, Investment and Industry.

Smt Sitharaman suggested to Mr Mirziyoyev that as tourism between India and Uzbekistan continues to grow, bilateral discussions on cooperation in FinTech, a cross-border real-time payment system would be very convenient for students, tourists and businesses on both sides. .

Recognizing the potential to further enhance bilateral cooperation, the President appreciated India's proposals to cooperate in new areas such as digital technologies, renewable energy, besides strengthening traditional areas of cooperation.
Mrs Sitharaman also told Mr Mirziyoyev that India appreciates Uzbekistan's efforts towards sustainable development and both countries can explore ways to cooperate on green technologies and climate action initiatives.
