“I just don’t think Virat is going…” Ex Australian star makes a massive prediction on Kohli’s breaking Sachin’s record in test cricket

Even though he hung his boots in 2013, Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most Test runs is yet to be broken, among many others. As per records, Sachin had 15,921 Test runs at the time of retirement. In the case of the current players, those in the top three Test run scorers are, India’s Virat Kohli, Steve Smith of Australia, and Joe Root who plays for England. Currently the leader of the pack is Root with a tally of 12402 runs, followed by Smith with 9685 runs and Kohli with 8871 runs.

All three, beg to be called the next greats of Test cricket, and many pundits as well as ex-players have predicted them to exceed the run tally scored by Tendulkar in this discipline.

While Root is still enjoying the purple patch in Test cricket, it can be seen that both Smith and Kohli have hit a serious slump. With the two mired in poor form, one former Australian player has made a huge statement about Kohli.

“I just don’t think Virat is going to get there. I think he’s lost his momentum, and the one he’s lost has been gone for a number of years now. He’s got to make the turn in the next 10 Test matches or he’s going to drop off,” said former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg in a video posted on his YouTube channel ahead of the India vs Bangladesh first Test.

In the India vs Bangladesh game that took place in Chennai, Kohli had a disappointing showing, scoring only 6 and 17 runs in the two innings combined.

“Joe Root has played 146 Test matches and accumulated 12,000 runs. Sachin Tendulkar scored close to 16,000 runs in 200 Test matches. That is an additional 4,000 runs in 66 Test matches. I think Joe Root has it in him to come pretty close to breaking that,” stated the former Australia all-rounder.

“Attention please, Joe Root is gunning for Sachin Tendulkar’s record. I believe he will calmly have it at the back of his mind wishing to overcome that unique small figure,” Hogg went on.
