IIIT-H Smart City Living Lab launches the first digital twin for water networks

Hyderabad: Smart City Living Lab has announced the launch of its innovative digital twin for water utility networks. The project, which was launched five months ago in collaboration with ZF Technologies, a CSR initiative, represents a significant advancement in smart city infrastructure management. Chief Technology Architect Anuradha Vattem said the idea of creating a digital twin started when an MoU was signed with the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) last February to set up a Center of Excellence for Water (Water CoE). were done. One of the problems discussed was a digital twin for a water and sewerage treatment plant.

Continuing with this, the team began to understand and think about how digital twins could be applied and used for utility networks such as water. And ZF has facilitated and promoted our idea in building the first digital twin for water networks at the IIITH Smart City Living Lab. Briefly about the product, an area of the water network was identified in Kohli Research Block where various nodes (water quality, water flow, water level and motor control) were deployed. After extensive research into existing software options and exploring all possibilities, the team chose to develop their own software stack tailored specifically for this project. It uses the standard stack used for smart city solutions (including the oneM2M interoperable layer).

The ZF team was led by Krishnaswamy Jambunathan, Vice President, ZF Group and Head of Tech Center India, and Rakesh Mishra, Head of Finance, who graced the official launch of the Digital Twin at the campus. Jambunathan appreciated the team's effort towards developing the platform. The successful implementation of the digital twin technology has brought great satisfaction to the ZF team. The launch event marks the culmination of this collaborative effort and paves the way for widespread adoption of this groundbreaking solution. After the launch, the team working on the Digital Twin project was given mementos as a token of appreciation.
