Governor's right to allow investigation in land misappropriation case, Siddaramaiah shocked by court order

Latest News :- The Karnataka High Court has ruled that the Governor's permission to investigate the land embezzlement case against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is legal. Mysuru Urban Development Corporation acquired the land owned by Parvati, wife of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. In return he was allotted 14 residential plots. There were complaints of malpractice because the value of the land given in return was many times more than the value of the land received.

Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot gave permission to register a case and investigate against Siddaramaiah in connection with this misconduct. Siddaramaiah, who filed a petition against this in the Karnataka High Court, complained that the Governor has used his authority illegally. He also demanded cancellation of Governor Anu Mati.

Power to Governor: The matter came up for hearing yesterday before Justice Nagaprasanna. At that time senior lawyers Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Ravi Verma appeared on behalf of Kumar Siddaramaiah. Union Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appeared and argued on behalf of the Governor. Justice Nagaprasanna, who heard arguments from both sides, said, “The Governor has the power to take independent decisions under Section 17(A) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Therefore, registering a case against Siddaramaiah and allowing investigation was legally correct. The petition seeking quashing of the said order is dismissed. Therefore, there is no impediment for the investigating agency to interrogate Siddaramaiah in this case,” he ordered.

Will not resign: This decision has put a lot of pressure on Siddaramaiah's post as Chief Minister. Since the High Court has accepted the Governor's permission, there is a possibility that the Lokayukta police will also register a case against Siddaramaiah. Due to this, opposition parties BJP and Mazda have insisted that Siddaramaiah should resign from the post of Chief Minister on moral grounds.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said, “This matter is fabricated. BJP and MJD are conspiring against me. I will have to face legal action. I will not resign from the post of Chief Minister because the Congress leadership and MLAs support me. Advice on appeal: I will consult legal experts on the next step in this matter. An announcement regarding the appeal to the Supreme Court will be made later,” he said. There has been an uproar in Karnataka politics regarding the land embezzlement case against Siddaramaiah.
