Vietnamese leader To Lam decorated with Cuba’s highest honor

Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and President To Lam was decorated with the Order of Jose Marti, the highest honor of the Cuban Party and State, at a ceremony chaired by Cuba’s First Secretary of Party Central Committee and President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez in Havana on Thursday (local time).

The order was granted in recognition of Lam’s contributions to the development of the solidarity, friendship, and faithful relations between the two Parties, States, and peoples.

Miguel Diaz-Canel directly presented the order to the Vietnamese leader.

Lam, on a state visit to Cuba, expressed his honor to receive the noblest accolade of the Cuban Party and State, showing his gratitude to the Cuban Party, State, and people for their sentiment and recognition.

The Vietnamese leader said that he always keeps in mind and appreciates the strong support and wholehearted assistance that the Cuban Party, State, and people have given to Vietnam during the struggle for national independence in the past and the national construction and safeguarding at present.

He affirmed the Vietnamese Party, State, and people’s consistent stance of staying united with and supporting Cuban peopl’s just struggle, and demanding the U.S. administration implement the United Nations resolutions on the immediate and unconditional end to its embargo, sanctions, as well as other hostile policies and actions against Cuba.

This is Lam’s first visit to Cuba in his capacity as Party General Secretary and State President. Cuba is also one of the first countries the Vietnamese top leader has visited.

It is taking place in the context that the two countries will celebrate the 65th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2025.
