The demolition work of the stadium has started in July 2024 and it will be completely demolished by May 2025.

The new stadium will be built by 2029
The new stadium will have a capacity of between 35,000 and 45,000 spectators and will primarily host football matches. The Shah Alam Sports Complex project is estimated to be completed by 2029. The stadium has played an important role in Malaysian sports since its opening. However, it was ignored for a long time, after which it is being demolished.

After this, the Malaysian government planned to build a new stadium in its place within a year. Construction of the original Shah Alam Stadium began on 1 January 1990 and was officially opened on 16 July 1994. On 29 July 2008, an exhibition match was held at the stadium between the Malaysia Select team and Chelsea, where the English team won the match 2–0 thanks to goals from Nicolas Anelka and Ashley Cole.
