Patna: 59 people have died due to heavy rains and landslides in Nepal. Kosi river is in spate due to continuous rains. The water level of Gander, Kosi, Bagmati, Mahananda and Ganga has increased. More than 5 lakh cusecs of water has been released from Gandak and Kosi barrage. Flood water has reached Kosi Barrage. Gate number-21 has been damaged. All the gates of the barrage have been opened and North Bihar has been put on alert. Contact with Nepal has been lost.

High alert has been put in 13 districts of Bihar regarding floods. According to the report, after 50 years, so much water has come in Kosi that it can submerge many districts of North Bihar. About 1.41 lakh population under 140 gram panchayats in 20 blocks of East-West Champaran, Araria, Kishanganj, Gopalganj, Shivhar, Sitamarhi, Supaul, Siwan, Madhepura, Muzaffarpur, Purnia, Madhubani has been affected by the floods so far.

Experts say that when the Kushaha dam broke in 2008, two to three lakh cusecs of water was released and that broke the dam. This time, after continuous rains in Nepal, more than 5.5 lakh cusecs of water has been released from Kosi Barrage and the situation is very serious. Regarding this, a senior official said that the Bihar government released water from Valmikinagar and Birpur Barrage on Saturday. After this, a flood warning has been issued due to the swollen Kosi, Gandak and Ganga rivers in the northern and central parts of the state. Due to the rise in the water level in the Ganga, the district administration has also issued an alert regarding floods in Sahibganj, Jharkhand. The Deputy Commissioner of the district, after visiting Diara area, has appealed to the people to go to safe places.
