Your address will be easily found, no need for pin code, 'Digipin' right?

New Delhi: Friends, now your address will be identified not only by the Postal Index Number (PIN) code of your area but also by the Digital PIN or DigiPIN. Yes, the Postal Department is busy preparing for the preparation and implementation of DigiPin. It is reported that Digipin can be implemented in the entire country in the next three years.

what is digipin

DigiPIN, i.e. Digital Postal Index Number, is a national addressing system of the Department of Posts, Government of India. It is also an addressing referencing system that may be used by multiple service providers and utilities.

Recently, the Postal Department has completed a pilot project for the use of Digipin in 10 villages and one city of the country. However, the department has not yet made public the name of the village or that city. The Department of Posts has taken the help of IIT Hyderabad, ISRO and the Ministry of Urban Development in preparing DigiPin.

At present the postal department uses a 6 digit PIN code for a large area or place. At the same time, in big cities there are different pin codes according to the area. But the new Digipin will give accurate information even about a very small place.

Digipin will reach even in forest or sea area

With the help of Digipin, the postal department will reach the exact place from village to forest or even in sea area. Actually, Digipin divides the area of the entire country in the size of 4X4 meters which includes the latitude and longitude of the area. Every 4X4 meter area will be given a 10 digit alphanumeric code (like ABC123) and this will be called Digipin.

Work will be done with geo located address code

If seen, house number, street, block, etc. are used in any address. But in small town or village addresses, house number or street is also not used. Therefore there is problem in delivery also. But due to the geo-located address code, Digipin will also give you accurate information about a particular place, whether that area is in a village, a forest or even in the sea. In such a situation, Digipin will not only help in delivering mail but will also help in rescue programs in case of emergency.

Digipin will not contain personal information

Although Digipin will be a grid of addresses at the national level and will also be public, no individual's personal information will be included in Digipin at all. It will give only geographical information. According to the Postal Department, it is not that anyone's address will change with the use of Digipin. At the same time, Digipin is being prepared in such a way that even if a new building, a new city or village is built or the name of any road is changed, it will not make any difference.

But to get information about Digipin, a device with Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) facility will be required. In this regard, the Postal Department has also prepared a web app with GNSS facility. Whose beta version has just been released. However, once this app is fully developed and made public, you will be able to know Digipin more easily. For this there will be no need to login into the app.
