Delhi High Court seeks information on Rahul Gandhi's citizenship case

Latest News :- Delhi High Court has directed the Center to clarify the status of the case filed in Allahabad Court regarding snatching the citizenship of Rahul Gandhi. BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has filed a petition in Delhi High Court demanding cancellation of citizenship of opposition leader in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.

In this, Subramanian Swamy had told that Rahul Gandhi, the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, had written a letter to the Home Ministry on 6 August 2019, clarifying what information he had given to the British government. He was a British citizen at the time of British passport check. Also, in that petition, he had requested that the court should order the Union Home Ministry to take a decision on this matter.

A similar case related to cancellation of Rahul's citizenship is pending in Allahabad court. In such a situation, Delhi High Court has said that two courts cannot hear the cases filed on the same issue simultaneously. The petition filed by Subramanian Swamy came up for hearing yesterday before a bench of Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Kedla of the Delhi High Court.

Then the judges said, Allahabad High Court is also investigating the petition filed regarding Rahul's citizenship. Courts cannot deal with the same issue at the same time. Therefore, the Central Government is directed to examine the present status of the petition filed in this matter and pending in the Allahabad High Court and obtain a copy of the same and file the same. We are doubly determined not to take over anyone else's jurisdiction. This is what the judges said.

During the hearing on this petition, the counsel for the Central Government requested the judges to give them some time to obtain the copy of the petition filed in the Allahabad High Court. Following this, the judges adjourned the case till October 9.
