Cole Palmer makes Premier League history in Chelsea vs Brighton clash

New Delhi: Chelsea’s star striker Cole Palmer has etched his name into Premier League history with a remarkable four-goal performance in the Blues’ 4-2 victory against Brighton at Stamford Bridge. The 22-year-old striker’s dazzling display saw him become the first player in Premier League history to score four goals in the first half of a game.

Palmer’s relentless performance left Brighton struggling to cope with his movement and clinical finishing. Despite Brighton starting off strong with the opening goal their spark soon got fizzled out and the match quickly turned into a goal-fest dominated by Palmer. He went on a rampage of his own and scored a stunning hat trick in about 10 minutes and a fourth goal just before halftime.

England striker’s four goals came within the first 45 minutes, marking the first time in Premier League history that a player has achieved such a feat. His clinical finishing saw him net all four goals in just under 20 minutes, a blistering spell that only Jermain Defoe who accomplished something similar for Tottenham in 2009 against Wigan.

The 22-year-old also had one goal disallowed and hit the woodwork, showcasing just how dominant he was throughout the match. With that, he sealed the deal for the Blues and even became the first to score four goals in the first half of the match.

The numbers speak for themselves

Cole Palmer’s performance was not just visually impressive it was historically significant. In addition to becoming the first player to score four first-half goals in the Premier League, he also set a new Chelsea record by completing the fastest-ever hat-trick in club history. Palmer netted three goals in nine minutes and 48 seconds, surpassing any previous mark set by a Chelsea player.

The striker’s 19-minute 57-second scoring spree placed him among an elite group of Premier League players. He became only the ninth player in league history to score four goals in two or more games joining the ranks of icons such as Frank Lampard, Sergio Aguero, and Michael Owen.

Palmer’s prolific record since joining Chelsea is equally remarkable with the young forward having now scored 28 goals and provided 15 assists in the Premier League which is more than any other player since the start of the 2023-24 season.

His impeccable penalty record also stands out as he has converted 10 out of his first 10 penalty attempts for Chelsea a feat only surpassed by Yaya Toure’s 11 straight penalty conversions for Manchester City.

“Hungry and Ambitious” Palmer impresses Enzo Maresca

Palmer’s stunning performance against Brighton is just the latest chapter in what has been an outstanding start to his Chelsea career. Since joining the club from Manchester City for £42.5 million last summer Palmer has quickly established himself as a key figure at Stamford Bridge.

With 22 Premier League goals in his debut season and six already this term, Palmer’s attacking prowess has helped Chelsea become a force to reckon with in the league. Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, who previously worked with Palmer during his time as a coach at Manchester City praised the forward’s humility and ambition.

“What he was as a boy is exactly what he was three or four years ago. Goals, assists, best player of the Premier League – this doesn’t change the way he is. He’s a humble guy and for me it’s the most important thing.” said Maresca after the game.

Cole Palmer was still hungry and wanted to make it five or six goals which shows he is not only writing his own chapter in Premier League history but soon will establish himself as one of the league’s most exciting attacking talents. If he continues at this pace there is little doubt that he could soon be regarded among the best forwards to ever grace English football.
