Supriya Sahu wrote in her tweet that Toda tribesman Kuttan is sitting very proudly in the middle of Neelakurinji. Neelakurinji flowers bloom once in 12 years. Because of its magical blue color it is called Neelakurinji. He also wrote that, IUCN has declared this as a threatened species and has advised for its conservation.

Neelakurinji Strobilanthes kunthiana has recently been assessed for the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species in 2024 and is listed as Vulnerable, emphasizing the need for its conservation.
