Till when will teams be able to retain players for IPL 2025, date revealed

For this, the Governing Council of IPL has announced the rules on Saturday.

Teams will be able to retain 6 players

According to the BCCI Governing Council, franchises can retain a maximum of six players through retention or by using the Right to Match (RTM) card option.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, BCCI has given time till October 31, 2024 for all the 10 franchises to announce their list of retained players before the mega auction. Within this deadline, all franchises will have to reveal the names of all their retained players.

What will be the rules of retention?

Under the new retention guidelines from BCCI, IPL franchises can retain a total of 6 players from their current team. If the team does not retain these 6 players then it can use the right to match. This combination is as per the IPL franchise's own thinking. Although these 6 players can be any foreign or Indian cricketer.

Will be counted among capped players if they play international matches

According to Cricbuzz, BCCI has also said that players who debut in international matches on or before October 31 will be considered capped players in the mega auction.
