“India will have to take a lead of 250 runs to win the first Test against Australia”: Ravi Shastri, Wasim Akram

Australia’s last pair of Mitchell Starc (26) and Josh Hazlewood (7 not out) has cut down India’s chance of taking a big lead in the first Test of the series. Former players Wasim Akram and Ravi Shastri feel that the visiting team must take a lead of 250 runs to win the series opener in Perth.

After scoring just 150 runs in their first innings, India National Cricket Team hit back in style with the ball. Jasprit Bumrah took five wickets to put the home team under massive pressure. Australia were bowled out for 104 runs, with India taking a lead of 46 runs.

“India will have to put 250 runs on the board to beat Australia. Even if there are a couple of small partnerships, India doesn’t go out of the contest. The pitch will get difficult to bat with more cracks opening and there is a need for a few Indian batters to score runs,” Wasim Akram said.

Ravi Shastri agreed with Wasim. “Absolutely. India will have to keep themselves in the game and for that they need to take a good lead to register a win. I think 250 would be enough over here as the pitch has a lot of assistance for the pacers and it will get tough to bat on in the upcoming sessions,” Ravi Shastri said.
