Pakistan did this special work to woo Sikhs on the 555th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak.

Lahore: Pakistan has issued a commemorative coin to mark the 555th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism. More than 2500 Indian Sikh pilgrims, who had come here to participate in the program organized on this special occasion, left for their homes on Saturday. Celebrations to commemorate the 555th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji began on November 14 at Gurdwara Janmashthan Nankana Sahib, where the founder of Sikhism was born.

Sikh pilgrims from all over the world, including India, participated in the religious rituals organized at the gurudwara, located about 100 km from here. The special commemorative coin of Pakistani Rupee 55 denomination has the image of Gurudwara Birth Place Nankana Sahib on one side and the inscription 555th Birth Anniversary and Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji 1469-2024 on the top and bottom respectively.

On the obverse side of the coin, there is a crescent moon rising in the north-west direction and a five-pointed star in the middle. 'Islami Jamhuriya Pakistan' Islamic Republic of Pakistan is written in Urdu on the perimeter at the top. Also below the crescent moon are two wheat plants whose arms are bent upwards.

According to the State Bank of Pakistan, the coin released on Friday contains 79 percent brass, 20 percent zinc and one percent nickel. Its diameter is 30 millimeters and its weight is 13.5 grams. The bank said that this commemorative coin will be available at the exchange counters of all branches of State Bank of Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Punjab's first Sikh minister and Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee chief Ramesh Singh Arora and 'Evacue Trust Property Board' additional secretary Saifullah Khokhar bid farewell to Indian Sikh pilgrims at the Wagah border on Saturday. Pakistan had issued one such coin on the occasion of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak. (agency)
