‘Kylian Mbappe Form Has Been Not to the Par’: Madrid Legend

Guti comments on Kylian Mbappe Form: Kylian Mbappe has been struggling to find form since his arrival at Real Madrid. The Frenchman who was supposed to be the poster boy of the club is now under the shadow of Vinicius Jr., who just missed the Ballon d’Or controversially.

The situation has gone worse when Mbappe missed a penalty, which could have let Real Madrid level Liverpool when the Reds were ahead of the game 1-0 in the UEFA Champions League. Real Madrid eventually lost the game 2-0 and are under the threat of not qualifying for the last 16, having just 6 matches from 5 points and being at 24th on the points table.

Guti Gives the Verdict on Kylian Mbappe Form

Amid criticisms, Guti, who played for Real Madrid for most of his career (1995-2010), commented on the situation, saying that ‘Mbappe has not been up to par’ after signing for the Spanish giants. The former Madrid midfield maestro also pointed out that Mbappe is dealing with a confidence issue. Guti was talking on El Chiringuito (h/t Mundo Deportivo).

“I think Mbappe has not been up to par, obviously. That’s the reality. We would all like to know what is happening to Mbappe. He looks lacking in confidence, shy. Moments before taking the penalty he looked scared. In that sense he is certainly not happy with his performance and wants something more.

“To that you add the fact that Real Madrid fans were eagerly awaiting him and that he has left his PSG bubble a little bit, where he had everything under control.

Playing for a club like Real Madrid takes a lot. You will have to work exceptionally well to be the best in a team that is full of stars.

“Mbappe has now joined another team where he will surely have to compete with great players to be the best, and all that costs. And the Real Madrid shirt costs, and that is normal. It is difficult to think that a player can adapt so quickly and so soon to a club like Real Madrid, where it is very difficult to play,” Guti continued.

Guti also added that taking Mbappé off could counterfire. Instead the player has to be protected.

“Taking him off would be the worst remedy, but he does have to be protected. And that’s why he’s at the best club. Florentino Perez, the club and (Carlo) Ancelotti are going to protect him because we all believe in him. I believe in him. The easy thing is to criticise and say that he’s not worth it, but Mbappe is one of the best players in the world.”
