Ab de Villiers names this legend as the new IPL captain of RCB, Check the details inside

RCB has concluded the Indian Premier League 2025 auction by acquiring some elite players which include Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Phil Salt, Tim David, Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma, among others. However, the franchise couldn’t really score the one thing which it so desperately wanted from this auction – a captain. Although before the auction there were rumors about Virat Kohli wanting to don the captaincy by himself, now RCB icon AB de Villiers gave a statemate as to that, wherein he said the India star would take up the role next season.

De Villiers remains one of the greats in the game, as well as the IPL. He arguably enjoyed the fullest IPL stint with RCB and still remains someone who is often exposed to the inside talks at the franchise. Since he is one of the best friends of Kohli, De Villiers knows the intricate details regarding Kohli’s life more often than not.

In a YouTube video, De Villiers confirmed that Kohli will take over RCB captaincy, though no official announcements have been made on the subject yet January of next year.

He captioned a clip featuring De Villiers saying, Virat Kohli, I don’t think it has been confirmed yet but he will be captain looking at the squad.

De Villiers expressed his views on the squad assembled by RCB, saying that he was happy to see the franchise include stars like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jos Hazlewood, Lungi Ngidi, and a few others.

“We have Bhuvneshwar Kumar Josh Hazlewood has Welcome. There are a couple we did miss. Rabada was close but at least we got Lungi Ngidi. He’s very awesome with his slower ball; when he’s on form and fit, he’s pretty much a force of nature.’ the former Proteas captain said.

“Ravichandran Ashwin missed. CSK picked him up, but it’s wonderful to see him again in the yellow jersey. All in all, I’m fairly happy. By and large, it’s a well-balanced squad; we are missing a match-winning spinner, but hopefully we’re able to balance the squad in such a way that we make Chinnaswamy a fortress. The squad should work at Chinnaswamy.”

“I guess it is going to be very similar on the road, on the turn. We need it, and I feel a little bit we’re missing it. The window brings some of that into my mind at the future transfer. I hope that will be referred to as the halfway tournament, where the IPL and the BCCI might have a transfer window convened to effect transfers in the middle of a tournament. You could probably even get an additional spinner in the squad, a wrist spinner perhaps, or go back to the unsold list. It’s a thought to ponder,’ said the South African great.

The great Proteas also said RCB misses out on R Ashwin, According to him, the team was currently lacking in that aspect because there was no spinner who could turn the ball both ways.
