Flipkart is conducting trials in these cities for quick delivery service, increased tension of Blinkit and BigBasket
Obnews Business Desk: Walmart-owned e-commerce company Flipkart is planning to expand its instant commerce section in view of increasing consumer demand for quick delivery. Amid growing competition from instant delivery platforms like Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, Zepto and BigBasket, Flipkart is trialling its quick commerce service under the 'minutes' segment in Bengaluru, Mumbai and Delhi-NCR.
There is high demand for quick supply in these cities
According to a report by market intelligence platform 'Datum Intelligence', the size of the instant commerce market is expected to reach $40 billion by the year 2030. It is estimated to exceed $6.1 billion in 2024. Rajneesh Kumar, chief corporate affairs officer at Flipkart, told the news agency, “It is important for us to be customer-centric. Customers in cities like Kolkata, Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai are demanding faster delivery. We are testing this service and have started it in Bengaluru, Mumbai and Delhi.”
However, Kumar has not given any timeline for the expansion of Quick Supply Service in new cities. The total size of online shopping in the country is currently around $70 billion but it accounts for only seven percent share of the total retail market. “We believe this will grow significantly with the overall growth of the retail sector in India,” Kumar said. “Industry data suggests that e-commerce will account for about 12 percent of India’s retail market by 2028.”
Flipkart always tries to remain in
Now it remains to be seen how effective this new quick supply service of Flipkart proves to be and in which cities its new services are successful. For your information, let us tell you that online shopping platform Flipkart always keeps doing new experiments. It has recently launched many services like Flipkart UPI and Recharge Services just a few months ago, which users are using very easily.
