Supreme Court postpones hearing on Mathura's Krishna Janmabhoomi and Shahi Masjid issue, next date is December 9.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has postponed the hearing to be held today on the Krishna Janmabhoomi and Shahi Masjid issue of Mathura. Now the next date of hearing has been given as December 9. The Allahabad High Court had rejected the petition of the Mosque Committee challenging the petition of the Hindu side to consider 18 cases related to this case.

There will be a detailed hearing on this matter till 2 pm on 9th December. They will decide the legal status of this case during the hearing itself. The Chief Justice said that in this case, prima facie, he feels that an inter-court appeal can be made against the order of the single bench of the Allahabad High Court. The court assured the petitioner and said that it will definitely give the petitioner a chance to argue.

The Allahabad High Court had rejected the petition of the Management Committee and Trust Shahi Masjid Idgah challenging the maintainability of 18 cases related to the temple-mosque dispute in Mathura. The court had said in the judgment that the religious character of Shahi Idgah needs to be determined.

What did the mosque trust say?

In the matter, the Mosque Trust said that the dispute over the Krishna Janmabhoomi temple and the mosque adjacent to it and the related cases filed by the Hindu parties violate the special act of the place of worship. He further said that this is not acceptable to us in any way.

What do Hindu parties say?

Referring to the 1991 Act passed by Parliament, the Mosque Trust said that it prohibits changing the religious character of any religious place with effect from August 15, 1947. Of this, only the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute was kept out of its scope. Whereas Hindu parties claim that in the case filed on their behalf, a request has been made to remove the mosque of Aurangzeb's time from there.
