Big campaign against drugs in Punjab: Police raids 391 drug hotspots, 79 accused arrested

Chandigarh. On the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab Police on Tuesday carried out a big and strict campaign in the entire state to eliminate the roots of drug addiction. Under the ‘War Against Drugs’ mission, the police conducted a cordon and search operation on 391 identified drug hotspots, which achieved great success. The campaign marks the 262nd day of continuous action against drugs.

According to DGP Gaurav Yadav, this operation was conducted simultaneously in all 28 police districts. In the day-long operation, police registered 67 cases and arrested 79 accused. During the raid, police recovered 4.3 kg heroin, 971 intoxicating pills/capsules and drug money worth Rs 3.16 lakh from the accused.

Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla said that the operation was monitored by 79 gazetted officers. For this, more than 400 police teams and more than 3000 policemen were deployed in the field. There was a stampede at many places during the police raid, but the police teams kept the situation under control and continued the action.

He said that under the ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign which started from March 1, 2025, so far 24,809 FIRs have been registered in the state and 36,901 drug smugglers have been arrested. Punjab Police has so far recovered a total of 1604 kg heroin, 557 kg opium, 263 quintals of husk, 529 kg ganja, 41.39 lakh intoxicating pills, 14 kg ice drug and drug money worth Rs 14.42 crore. The state government claims that this campaign will be intensified further so that Punjab can be completely freed from the drug problem.
