Team India could not win the toss in the last 20 ODIs… Assistant coach broke the dew factor
New Delhi. Team India’s luck is very bad in terms of toss in One Day International Cricket. The Indian team has not been able to win the toss in the last 20 ODI matches. The Indian team last won the toss in an ODI match in the semi-finals of the World Cup 2023. Since then, three captains of India have changed, but no one has won the toss. Many times the Indian team has had to suffer the consequences of this. Recently, the same was seen in the second ODI match played between India and South Africa in Ranchi, when due to dew factor, Team India lost despite scoring more than 350 runs. However, the solution to this has been found by Team India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Deutsche.
Dew will also be an important factor in the series decider match to be played in Visakhapatnam today i.e. on Saturday 6th December. The toss will be important here, as there is a possibility of dew falling in the second innings. The batting team benefits from this, but India’s assistant coach has told how the dew factor can be dealt with? “The biggest challenge, again, is going to be the difference between the team batting first and the team batting second. I think that is more clearly visible in ODI cricket and that is the real challenge,” Ryan ten Doeschate said ahead of the third ODI.
In Raipur, Team India set a target of 359 runs for South Africa, which the Indian bowlers could not defend. To this, Deutsche said, “The dew factor is huge, yes, it is clearly not our fault, but it is our responsibility to find a way to deal with it.” When asked about the solution to this, he said, “It is true that dew starts falling as soon as the second innings starts. This means that dew remains the whole time, so changing the time of the match can reduce its impact a bit. If you start the match two hours earlier, it can be a solution.” He acknowledged that to do this all stakeholders would have to come together.
