1 big good news for children in UP, government announced!

Lucknow. The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a big decision for lakhs of children of the state. The government is now going to extend the benefit of DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) to all those children who were deprived of this facility till now. About 4.92 lakh children aged between 6 to 14 years registered on the Zero Poverty Portal of the Planning Department have been found who have not yet received the amount under DBT. A state-wide campaign will be started to connect these children with the scheme.

Why is this campaign important?

To meet the education and basic needs of children, the state government sends ₹1200 per year directly into the bank accounts of the parents/guardians of the children for school uniforms, shoes-socks, sweaters and bags. More than 1.30 crore children in the state have already availed the benefit of this facility, but still about 6 lakh children are deprived of it due to non-linking of bank accounts with Aadhaar or other technical problems.

How will the missing children be reunited?

The government has prepared a detailed action plan to connect these children with the scheme:

1. Children’s identification campaign

A special campaign will be run from the district level to the Gram Panchayat level. The team of teachers, education department and administration will go door-to-door to identify such children.

2. Admission in nearby government schools

The children who are not going to school or have dropped out of school will be verified and re-admitted to the nearest council school.

3. Correction of bank accounts and Aadhaar seeding

For children whose parents’ bank accounts are not linked to Aadhaar, Aadhaar seeding will be done by running camps and awareness campaigns, so that DBT payments can be made easily.

Important responsibilities of officers

The government has given direct responsibility to the District Magistrate (DM) and Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) to monitor and ensure the success of this campaign. Under his supervision, the list of children will be verified, admission will be done in schools, bank accounts will be activated after Aadhar seeding and then DBT amount will be sent.
