Jayant Yadav showed his strength against Mohammed Shami, Abhimanyu Easwaran’s team got a crushing defeat

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025: Puducherry defeated Bengal by 81 runs in the Group C match of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025. Spinners Jayant Yadav and Sidak Singh took four and three wickets respectively, leaving behind fast bowler Mohammed Shami who was out of the Indian team. Jayant Yadav was chosen player of the match on the basis of his brilliant bowling.

Bengal’s fielding and Puducherry’s batting

Bengal, which decided to field first, restricted Puducherry to 177 runs for five wickets. Experienced Shami took three wickets for 34 runs in four overs. He got support from off-spinner Hrithik Chatterjee, who took two wickets for 53 runs. Fast bowler Akash Deep could not succeed in taking wickets in this match. For Puducherry, captain Aman Khan played a brilliant inning of 74 runs in 40 balls, which included five fours and seven sixes. Jashwant Sriram strengthened the team’s score by scoring 45 runs.

Jayant and Sidak’s bowling defeated Bengal

Chasing the target of 178 runs, the Bengal team was all out for 96 runs in just 13.5 overs. During this, Jayant Yadav took four wickets for 28 runs in four overs, while left arm spinner Sidak Singh took three wickets for just nine runs in three overs. Apart from this, Adil Ayub Tunda and Aman Khan took one wicket each. For Bengal, Karan Lal scored 40 runs in 23 balls. Opener Abhishek Porel and captain Abhimanyu Easwaran could only add 11 and 12 runs respectively. All the other batsmen did not even reach double digits.

In another thrilling match, Gujarat defeated Himachal Pradesh by just one wicket. Batting first, Himachal scored 193 runs for eight wickets. Mridul Suroch was the top scorer with 88 runs in 48 balls, while Inesh Mahajan and Akash Vashistha added 36 and 49 runs respectively. For Gujarat, Harshal Patel, Arjan Nagwaswala and Japaganya Bhatt took two wickets each. In reply, Gujarat achieved the target on the last ball. Captain Urvil Patel scored 39 runs, Arya Desai scored 37 runs and Saurabh Chauhan scored 35 runs. For Himachal, Mridul Suroch took three wickets for 45 runs.
