Although asafoetida should be consumed in every season, but consumption of asafoetida becomes necessary in winter. In winter, the body’s fire, digestive system, respiratory system and joints are most affected. The digestive fire of the stomach becomes weak. In such a situation, consumption of asafoetida is necessary for proper digestion.

Ayurveda says that if asafoetida is used properly in winter, half of the diseases are eliminated. The taste of asafoetida is pungent and the aroma is strong. It has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antiviral properties, which help in providing relief from many problems. In a way, it works in the body like a natural antibiotic.

If there are stomach cramps due to cold or the stomach feels tight then consume asafoetida and hot water. Its consumption reduces stomach stiffness and helps in calming gas and acidity. Due to this, the cooled digestive fire also gets intensified and the food gets digested well.

The problem of freezing of Baglam is common in winter. The body gets affected due to cold winds and cough and phlegm make the body weak. In such a situation, one should mix a pinch of asafoetida in hot ghee and drink it. With this, the phlegm accumulated in the throat will loosen and start coming out. If this water is taken on an empty stomach in the morning, there will be even more benefits. This will help in cleaning the lungs faster.

Due to stiffness in winter, pain starts in muscles and joints. In this situation, add asafoetida in sesame oil, heat it and apply it on the affected area. This oil provides instant relief from pain, stiffness and muscle ache. Use the oil twice a day and also apply warm water.

If you are feeling less hungry and do not feel like eating food, then asafoetida should be consumed with black salt. This will work as a tonic to increase appetite. Asafoetida and black salt should be consumed half an hour before eating food. This will also help in saving food by activating the stomach.

In winter, one feels more like eating fried food and sometimes eating too much fried food causes stomach upset. There is a feeling of heaviness in the body. For this, lemon and asafoetida should be mixed in lukewarm water. This will reduce the heaviness of the body, remove toxins and also reduce the problem of acidity.
