Endgame’s re-release be Marvel’s bid to finally overtake Avatar at the box office?
First launched on April 26, 2019, Endgame served as the sequel to Avengers: Infinity War and marked the 22nd entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It became a global phenomenon, amassing close to $2.8 billion and briefly holding the title of the world’s highest-grossing film, until Avatar reclaimed the crown through its own series of re-releases.
Currently, Endgame trails Avatar by roughly $126 million on the all-time global box office chart. With James Cameron’s film having earned more than $170 million from re-releases since 2009, Marvel seems to be banking on the possibility that a strong theatrical comeback could push Endgame past Avatar once more and possibly even make it the first movie in history to cross the $3 billion mark.
The ensemble cast of the Russo-directed epic includes Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Bradley Cooper, Josh Brolin, and many more.
