Meanwhile, discussions have started regarding ICC World Cup 2027. Meanwhile, former Indian captain and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has told who should be the captain of the Indian team in the World Cup 2027.
Sourav Ganguly told who should be the captain of Team India in ICC World Cup 2027
Sourav Ganguly recently participated in a podcast, where while talking about the new captain of the Indian team for the World Cup 2027 (ICC World Cup 2027), he said that
“One day I was sitting in Eden Gardens and suddenly someone came to me and asked me whether Shubman Gill should captain in T-20? I said that he should captain in every format. I asked him that three months ago this same Gill was in England and he had done amazing batting and captaincy. He had got a young team to fight on English soil, in which Kohli-Rohit were not there. And now in just three months’ time, you can see their “Are you raising questions on captaincy? This is the mindset of the people.”
Sourav Ganguly, who took India to the final of the World Cup 2003, further said that
“This happens with all those who keep taking decisions all the time. You have to be patient and give time to someone to improve. Gill’s first quarter was like gold in England. However, after one quarter, the same system is finding faults in him.” Ganguly said that if any captain is judged in a three-month cycle, then no captain will be able to grow in this job.”
ODI captaincy snatched from Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma, who took India to the finals of World Cup 2023 and made India win the finals of T20 World Cup 2024 and ICC Champions Trophy 2025, has been stripped of the captaincy of the team two years before the World Cup 2027. Now the command of the Indian team in ODI has been handed over to Shubman Gill.
After Rohit Sharma’s retirement from Test, Shubman Gill was made the captain of the Test team. He has been made the vice-captain in T20, but after the T20 World Cup 2026, he will be made the captain of Team India in T20 in place of Suryakumar Yadav. In such a situation, after IPL 2026, he is going to be seen captaining the Indian team in all three formats.
