Panaji, 7 December. The death toll in the massive fire incident in Goa’s tourist area Arpora has reached 25. About six people were taken to the hospital in injured condition. The incident of fire inside the club has created panic in the entire area. Local citizens said that the incident happened around 12 o’clock in the night. Speaking to a news agency, an eyewitness to the club fire incident said, “We had just reached our hotel when we saw red flames coming out. When we went and saw, the police were already on the spot and handling the situation.”
A local said, “We were nearby, but we did not see it at night. The incident is reported to have happened around 12 o’clock, but we did not know at that time. I saw the news this morning and immediately rushed here. Last night we only heard very loud sirens, but we did not understand what had happened.” He said that when I got the news in the morning, I came running here. We thought something might have happened on the road, nothing too serious, but in the morning we came to know that such a big tragedy had happened.
Another local said, “The incident happened around 12 o’clock in the night, so not much was known at that time. I heard the sound of the ambulance. In the morning we came to know that perhaps 25 people died.” After the massive fire in Arpora, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant confirmed that 25 people lost their lives and 6 were injured. The condition of all six injured people is stable. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant visited the incident site on Sunday morning. Expressing grief over the incident, he has ordered a magisterial inquiry so that the cause can be found out and responsibility can be fixed.
