Indian Railways: There is not a single railway station in this state of India, know the reason

Indian Railways: India’s railway network is the fourth largest network in the world and crores of passengers travel through it every day. But there is also a state in the country where not a single railway station has been built till date. People here cannot travel by train even if they want to. this is the state Sikkim, which is one of the major states of the Seven Sisters of the North-East.

The biggest reason for the absence of a railway network in Sikkim is its geographical nature. Most of the state’s area is full of rugged hills, steep slopes and deep valleys. Due to its strategic location and difficult geographical conditions, laying the railway line has been extremely challenging. The beauty of the Eastern Himalayas also brings with it natural barriers. This area is sensitive to landslides and seismic activities, hence construction of railway track here has been considered difficult and impractical from both technical and safety point of view.

However, Sikkim is not completely without connectivity. A strong network of roads has been laid in the state and air facility is also available. Construction of the Rangpo Railway Station is underway, which when completed will connect Sikkim to the Indian Railways network for the first time. At present, people here travel only by road, air route and cable cars.

Despite not having railway facilities, the natural beauty of Sikkim makes it very special for tourists. Scenic places like Tsomgo Lake, Gurudongmar Lake, Yumthang Valley and Khecheopalri Lake are its special identity. The serene environment, clean air and amazing natural views make it one of the most beautiful tourist destinations in India.
