SA vs Ind: First T20 today… Hardik Pandya very close to creating history… returns to the team
New Delhi. Indian team’s star all-rounder Hardik Pandya will return to international cricket on Tuesday (December 9) in the first match of the five-match T20 series against South Africa. He suffered a quadriceps injury against Sri Lanka in the Super Four match of the Asia Cup. For this reason he could not play the important final match against Pakistan. Pandya spent a few weeks at the BCCI Center of Excellence to regain fitness.
Hardik Pandya played two matches for Baroda in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and proved his fitness. Now he is ready to wear the jersey of Team India again. Pandya has replaced Nitish Kumar Reddy. This player had gone to Australia in his absence. Hardik was not fit for the South Africa series ODI but is all set to make a comeback in T20.
Hardik Pandya is very close to creating history. He is just 140 runs and two wickets away from becoming the first Indian all-rounder to score 2000 runs and 100 wickets in T20 International. He made his T20 International debut in 2016. He has 1860 runs and 98 wickets in his name. He can achieve this feat in the T20 series against South Africa. Pandya has been an important member of the T20 team since his debut. He successfully saved 16 runs in the last over to lead India to victory in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Hardik Pandya also bowled the last over against Bangladesh in the 2016 T20 World Cup. India won that match by just one run. Pandya is one of the fastest batsmen and his strike rate is 141.01. Pandya is also a regular player in ODI. He has taken 1904 runs and 91 wickets in 94 ODIs. Due to his success in white ball cricket, he also joined the Test team in 2017. But due to back problem he could play only 11 tests. He has 532 runs and 17 wickets in his name in Test cricket. Pandya has not played any red-ball match since 2018.
