Gavaskar’s advice on Abhishek Sharma’s poor form, coach expressed confidence –

Tezzbuzz Desk- Indian opener Abhishek Sharma’s performance in the T20 World Cup 2026 has been disappointing so far. The 25-year-old batsman has not even been able to open his account in three matches, which has increased the concern among the team management and fans.

Abhishek had a bad start with a golden duck against USA. After this, he returned to the pavilion without opening the account even against Pakistan and Netherlands. All three times he was out in the first over itself, which dealt an initial blow to the team.

Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar said on ‘Star Sports’ that the pressure of expectations on Abhishek is clearly visible. He advised that the young batsman should focus on polishing his innings instead of playing big shots in the beginning.

Gavaskar said, “Start with a single. Even four dot balls do not matter. It is fine if the big shots come naturally, but do not force yourself. First spend time at the crease and score the first runs, after that the game will become easier.”

However, despite the poor form, the team management stands with Abhishek. Indian team’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate expressed confidence in his ability to make a comeback. He told that Abhishek recently batted for about 90 minutes in the nets and his timing and striking are showing positive signs.

According to the coach, he was not completely comfortable in the group phase and could not even play the match against Namibia due to being in the hospital for a few days. Still, the team is confident that he will perform better in the second phase.

Super-8 and knockout stages will be very important for the Indian team. In such a situation, a strong start will be expected from the opening pair. Now all eyes are on whether Abhishek Sharma will be able to answer the criticism with the bat and make a comeback on the big stage.
