Jabalpur: Stone pelting between two parties after vandalism in temple
There was a huge uproar in Azad Chowk area under Sihora police station of Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday night when a youth was attacked by people of other community during the Aarti in the temple. Not only this, miscreants also entered the Durga temple and vandalized it.
After this incident, communal tension spread in the entire area and soon the situation went out of control and stone pelting started from both sides. After which the police had to use tear gas shells to bring the situation under control.
According to eyewitnesses, Aarti was going on in the Durga temple located in Azad Chowk, Ward No. 5 of Sihora. Meanwhile, people from other communities attacked a young man performing Aarti for playing the loudspeaker of the temple loudly. Broke the grill of the temple and entered inside and started vandalizing it.
The news of vandalism in the temple spread like wildfire throughout Sihora, after which the local people became angry. During this, heavy stone pelting started from both the sides. Let us tell you that the mosque and the Durga temple are located opposite to each other in the Azad Chowk area, hence this area is already considered sensitive.
The miscreants vandalized not only the temple but also many nearby houses, creating an atmosphere of panic in the area. Seeing the situation getting out of control, heavy police force is deployed on the spot. Many senior police officers including Collector Raghavendra Singh and SP Sampat Upadhyay were present on the spot.
The entire area has been converted into a cantonment. There is no report of any untoward incident from anywhere. Late night the police detained more than 15 people. The situation in the area is being monitored by the police after the incident.
