National Family Benefit Scheme UP 2026: For any poor or middle-class family, the sudden demise of the main earning member of the family is such a severe and deep blow that the entire family becomes completely financially broken. In such sensitive and difficult times, the Central and State Governments are continuously running many welfare schemes to support the economically weak families. According to Zee News, ‘National Family Benefit Scheme’ (NFBS) of Uttar Pradesh government is proving to be a big boon for such destitute rural and urban families. The scheme provides immediate lump sum financial assistance of ₹30,000 to the grieving family in case of sudden death of the main earning member of the family, so that the family can meet its basic needs in this hour of crisis. Main objective of the scheme and strict eligibility conditions The scheme was originally launched in the year 2006, but in Uttar Pradesh it has been made extremely transparent and strong by linking it with the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. Earlier under this scheme, assistance of ₹ 20,000 was given, which was later increased to ₹ 30,000. The main objective of the government is to rescue the families living below the poverty line (BPL) from this sudden severe economic crisis. To ensure that the benefits of the scheme reach only the genuine needy, the administration has set some strict and clear eligibility criteria: Main eligibility criteria set Strict terms and conditions Domicile It is mandatory for the applicant to be a permanent resident of Uttar Pradesh. The age of the earning member should be more than 18 years and less than 60 years at the time of death of the deceased. The total annual income of the family in rural area should not exceed ₹ 46,080. The total annual income of the family in urban area should not exceed ₹ 56,450. Ration Card Category Family must have authentic BPL ration card. Employment status: The deceased person should not be in any government job nor should he be receiving any government pension. The application process is completely online and transparent. To completely eliminate corruption and reduce the role of middlemen to zero, the Uttar Pradesh government has made the application process of this scheme 100 percent online. Now no victim’s family needs to visit offices. Important Information: There is no option of offline application available in this scheme. The applicant has to directly visit the official website of the scheme nfbs.upsdc.gov.in and fill his digital registration form. After selecting your district on the portal, you have to fill your personal information and hard bank details so that the assistance amount can be sent directly to the account. Main documents required for the application (Documents List) It is mandatory to upload clear scanned copies of the following documents while filling the form on the portal: Official death certificate of the deceased BPL ration card of the family Aadhar card of the applicant Clear photocopy of bank passbook (in which IFSC code is clear) Residence certificate and income certificate (certified by Tehsildar) Age certificate of the deceased Active mobile number and passport size photo of the applicant After the digital form is submitted, Gram Panchayat at the local level (for rural areas). Or physical verification of documents is done by the officials of the municipal body (for urban areas). If the verification process is found to be correct, an amount of ₹30,000 is transferred directly to the beneficiary’s bank account within just 30 to 60 days. Impact on ground and administrative reforms: Since the global pandemic like Covid, there has been a huge increase in the applications for this scheme. Ground reports coming from districts like Meerut, Kanpur and Lucknow suggest that the district administration has now tightened and expedited the process of linking death certificates to Aadhaar cards to speed up the disposal of applications. In the words of the beneficiary: Rameshwar Yadav, a resident of Meerut, says, "After father’s sudden death, our entire family was on the verge of disintegration. During those difficult times, the ₹30,000 we received from the National Family Benefit Scheme came as a lifeline to help us manage our household expenses and our children’s education."
