Accident in Visakhapatnam steel plant, 8 workers died due to falling of molten iron

A major accident occurred on Monday at Vizag Steel Plant in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. According to initial news, 8 laborers have died due to falling of molten iron. Immediately after this accident, Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner Shankarbrata Bagchi reached the spot and went out to take stock of the situation. He said, ‘According to initial information, five people have been seriously injured in this accident.’

 

According to the police, this accident occurred when molten iron was being transported from one place to another with the help of a crane in a big bucket. Meanwhile, hot iron spilled and fell on the workers. Police said that the temperature of the molten iron was around 1600 degrees Celsius, due to which the workers got badly burnt. The injured have been admitted to the hospital for treatment. At present the reasons for the accident are being investigated.

Chandrababu Naidu expressed grief over the accident

Expressing grief over this accident, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said, ‘The accident at Visakh Steel Plant is very sad and I am deeply shocked by this news. It is very sad to know that many workers lost their lives in this accident. I have spoken to the concerned officials and have given instructions to carry out relief and rescue operations expeditiously in coordination with all government departments.

How did this accident happen?

Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Circle Inspector Keshav Rao said that 8 workers died while several other workers were injured after a huge amount of molten steel leaked in the SMS-2 and STC-3 heat facilities of the plant. This accident occurred due to an explosion in a ladle carrying extremely high temperature molten steel. Keshav Rao said that as soon as information about the accident was received, plant officials and rescue teams reached the spot. At present, fire control and relief work is going on. The injured have been sent to the hospital for treatment.
