First the ‘mistake’, now the effort to correct it, where is Mamata going wrong in handling TMC?
After losing power in West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee’s support base is slipping within her own party. The Trinamool Congress, whose foundation he laid on January 1, 1998, is going through its worst phase. Even after winning 80 assembly seats in the recent assembly elections held in West Bengal, they are not even left with 21 MLAs.
Mamata Banerjee’s party has broken in the assembly. Expelled Trinamool Congress leader Ritabrata Banerjee has taken over the party. With 58 MLAs, he has defeated Mamata Banerjee in her own party. Ritabrata Banerjee has rebelled against Mamata Banerjee and accepted the role of Leader of Opposition in the Assembly. His choice was Shobhan Bhattacharya but he was not accepted by the Trinamool Congress MLAs.

Mamata Banerjee’s own people are not listening to her
There was a split among the elected MLAs, even when Mamata Banerjee won their houses to discuss the issue, 8 of the Trinamool Congress MLAs did not turn up. This political difficulty of Mamata Banerjee is going to increase further. Now more than 20 MPs from Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha are forming a separate faction in the party. Neither her MLAs nor MPs are agreeing with Mamata Banerjee.
Mamta Banerjee sidelined in her own party
A deep crisis has arisen in Trinamool Congress. Rebel MPs say that 20 of the party’s 28 Lok Sabha MPs have now formed a separate block and are going to join the BJP-led NDA. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, who is leading the rebellion, claimed that 20 MPs have written a letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker demanding a separate seat. Rebel MPs say the block will support the NDA and work with the central and state governments for the development of Bengal.

How did TMC’s new trouble come about?
On Monday, 14 rebels reached the house of Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav. West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari was also present there. 8 rebel MPs held a meeting at Shatabdi Roy’s house. The list of rebels includes many names including Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Satabdi Roy, Dev, Sharmila Sarkar. He claimed that 6 more MPs are with him. He needs at least 19 MPs to avoid anti-defection laws.
Mamta Banerjee is also troubled by resignations
TMC Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Shekhar Ray resigned from the party’s primary membership and Rajya Sabha. He said that there was a bad situation in the party for a long time. People close to Mamata Banerjee rejected the claim of the rebel group. He said that only 12-13 MPs had gone with him, not 20.
Mahua Moitra has challenged the rebels to resign and contest elections on BJP ticket. This incident is a big shock for Mamata Banerjee. The rebellion in TMC had intensified after losing the assembly elections last month. Now the party is on the verge of collapse in the Lok Sabha also.

How did Mamata try to handle the rebellion in the party?
Mamata Banerjee has recently made some major reshuffles at the organizational level of TMC to strengthen her hold on the party organization and suppress dissent. He has given more preference to the old faces of Trinamool Congress in the organization, Abhishek Banerjee’s post remains intact but some changes have also taken place symbolically. Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee has made major organizational changes in the party.
After the defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, he retained his nephew Abhishek Banerjee as National General Secretary, but limited his powers. Now Derek O’Brien and Dola Sen have been made joint general secretaries. Dola Sen is considered closest to Mamata. Abhishek Banerjee loyalist Trinankur Bhattacharya was removed from the post of president of student wing Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad. Priyanka Adhikari was appointed in her place. It is believed that this has ended the monopoly of Abhishek Banerjee and given strength to some more people in the party.

Why did Mamata Banerjee fail?
There is severe dissatisfaction in Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress against Abhishek Banerjee. She is ignoring old faces and giving more power to Abhishek Banerjee. This is what the party MPs have the biggest objection to. He has sidelined many old faces and promoted new and loyal leaders, due to which dissatisfaction increased. As long as we were in power, dissent remained suppressed within the party, now rebellion is coming out. Now the situation is not stable in Trinamool Congress.
