‘Even if you have to work day and night, find a solution by Friday!’ Supreme Court strongly reprimanded CBSE

The Supreme Court, the country’s largest court, has issued strict instructions to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in a very sensitive matter. The court has clearly told CBSE to take concrete and effective steps to declare the results of Class 12 improvement examination as soon as possible to prevent delays in the admission of Indian students studying in colleges and universities of West Asian countries. The Honorable Supreme Court has bluntly warned the Board that the future of the students cannot be played with, hence the Board officials may work day and night, but by the coming Friday, they should present the solution to this entire problem and an accurate plan before the Court. After this order, there is panic in the corridors of CBSE Board.

Supreme Court’s big action on foreign student’s petition, CBSE’s argument of seeking time rejected

This whole matter heated up when the division bench of Justice Manmohan and Justice Vijay Bishnoi decided to immediately hear the petition of an overseas Indian student studying in Saudi Arabia. In his petition, the victim student had requested CBSE to direct him to declare the result of his 12th class improvement exam immediately, so that his entire year can be saved from being wasted. Seeing the seriousness of the matter, the Supreme Court not only issued a strong notice to CBSE, but when the board’s counsel asked for more time from the court to prepare its reply to the petition, the bench rejected it outright. The court has fixed June 12, 2026 for the next hearing of the case and has ordered to solve the result problem at any cost till then.

There is a danger of losing admission in the university, the lawyer expressed the pain of the students in the court.

Senior advocate Raj Kishore Choudhary, appearing on behalf of the petitioner student in the court, placed the concerns of the students and their mental stress before the bench. He argued that due to non-declaration of the results of the improvement examination, the entire academic career of the student is being adversely and permanently affected. The student has already applied for higher education and admission in foreign universities. If the board does not release the result on time, then foreign universities will close the admission window and the student will be forever deprived of the opportunity to complete his further studies even if he wants to. It is also a question of the future of thousands of other students who are facing a similar situation.

Despite the assessment scheme, why was the result tagged ‘RL’? Questions raised on the board’s silence

The negligence of the board is coming to the fore at the root of this entire controversy. In fact, in view of the huge problems being faced by thousands of students studying in West Asian countries due to war and unrest, the government had issued a notification of a special assessment scheme. Under this scheme, it was decided that the marks of the examinations which have been canceled due to adverse circumstances like Corona or war, will be given to the students on the basis of their previous performance in quarterly, half yearly and pre-board examinations. But the petitioner student alleges that the board left his result by writing ‘RL’ i.e. (Result Later) in the status of his result without giving any concrete reason. When the student approached the board against this, his views were paid no attention.

CBSE did not wake up even after sending repeated reminders, now court is the last resort

The petition makes serious allegations against the functioning of the CBSE Board, saying that the student had specifically requested the Board officials in writing that either the evaluation of the canceled subjects should be done immediately under the new assessment scheme of the government, or he should be allowed to appear in the special examinations to be conducted under the rules of Section 18 of the scheme. The student sent several reminders and complaints to the Board one after another, but did not receive any response from the respondents (CBSE). Fed up with the board’s mysterious silence and negligence, the student finally had to approach the Supreme Court of the country, from where CBSE has now received strict instructions.
