American space agency NASA is on high alert regarding this incident.

In view of this danger, meteorologists have issued a warning of a strong ‘G3’ category geomagnetic storm. The most unique effect of this explosion will be visible in the sky; Scientists estimate that due to this storm, colorful celestial lights called ‘Aurora’ may be visible in the hilly areas of Northern India as well as in Europe and Australia.

What is filament and why is it special?

This entire incident started from a particular part of the Sun, which is known as ‘Active Region 4461’. On the morning of June 6, 2026, a massive explosion occurred in this area. In scientific language, it is considered as ‘M1.8’ category solar flare i.e. medium level solar eruption. With the explosion, a very dense and huge magnetic filament emerged from the sun. You can imagine this filament as a floating bridge made of electricity, which is filled with very cold and dense magnetic gas. Right now this filament is moving straight towards the Earth at a high speed of about 1,400 kilometers per second. The greater its mass and speed, the greater will be its impact.

Will Earth’s protective shield weaken?

When this magnetic cloud reaches the Earth, our protective shield i.e. the magnetosphere will face it. According to space scientists, the real impact of the storm depends on a particular magnetic direction (Bz). If the magnetic direction of this storm turns towards the south, it will penetrate our protective shield for some time.

Once the protective shield is penetrated, solar energy will directly enter our atmosphere. Due to this, beautiful lights of green, purple and red colors will be visible in the sky. Scientists say that this storm is so powerful that it can increase from ‘G3’ to ‘G4’ i.e. severe category. If this happens, then the color of the night sky in Northern India may also change.

What is the danger from ‘Cannibal Storm’?

The sun has been continuously active this week. Earlier, on June 3, weak storms had originated from another place named ‘Active Region 4455’. The concern now is that this new, much faster storm will overtake earlier, slower storms in its path. In scientific language it is called ‘Cannibal CME’, in which a faster moving storm swallows the slower storm moving ahead of it. After coming together, the storm that is formed is much more powerful.
