In UNSC, India termed Pakistan’s ‘Fitna al Hindustan’ narrative as misleading.
United Nations/New Delhi. During a meeting held on the situation in Afghanistan in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), India took a strong stand against Pakistan and termed the term ‘Fitna al Hindustan’ being used by it as a misleading and disinformation campaign. India said that Pakistan is resorting to such narratives to divert attention from the internal problems of its country.
Addressing the meeting, India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Parvathaneni Harish said that Pakistan’s description of some groups operating in its country as ‘Fitna al Hindustan’ is not based on facts. He said that such terminology is being presented by giving it a religious colour, whereas its purpose is to confuse people.
India said that Pakistan has for a long time been trying to create an anti-India atmosphere to divert public attention from its political and economic challenges. The Indian representative said that creating an environment of continuous hostility against India has been an old strategy of Pakistan, through which the ruling system there tries to safeguard its interests.
During the meeting, India also raised the issue of military air strikes carried out by Pakistan in Afghanistan. India said that labeling any military action as an anti-terrorism operation cannot ignore the harm caused to innocent civilians. The Indian representative said that these attacks have resulted in deaths and injuries to civilians, causing immense suffering to the Afghan people.
India also raised questions on Pakistan’s dual attitude. The Indian side said that on one hand Pakistan talks about international law and Islamic solidarity, while on the other hand it takes military action in the holy month of Ramzan. This shows a clear contradiction between his behavior and statements.
What is the ‘Fitna al Hindustan’ controversy?
Last year, Pakistan started using the term ‘Fitna al Hindustan’ for some extremist and terrorist organizations operating in Balochistan. Pakistan claimed that these organizations were working with the support of India. However, no public and concrete evidence was presented by Pakistan in this regard.
India rejected the claim at the UN forum, saying it was a politically motivated campaign aimed at misleading the international community and diverting attention from domestic issues.
India also said in its statement that it has been Pakistan’s old tendency to hold neighboring countries or external powers responsible for its internal problems. India clarified that such allegations do not change the real situation and the international community now examines such claims seriously.
With this statement, India once again clarified its position while responding to Pakistan’s allegations on the international platform and emphasized on peace, stability and security of civilians in Afghanistan.
