BYD Sealion6 Plug-In Hybrid SUV Launch Confirmed For Tomorrow

Chinese vehicle manufacturer BYD is currently known for its electric vehicles in India. However, it has a variety of offerings abroad. These include ICE, hybrid, and EV models. In India too, BYD is planning to enter the hybrid segment by launching its first plug-in hybrid SUV. The launch is scheduled to happen on 9th June 2026, and there was confusion regarding the product being launched. Some reports claimed it would be the Atto 2, while others claimed it was the Sealion 6. The latest teaser video released by the brand has now put these rumours to rest. BYD will be launching the Sealion 6 PHEV in the market tomorrow.
The video has been shared by BYD India on its official Instagram page. The teaser image shows the silhouette of the upcoming SUV, which is scheduled for launch tomorrow. The teaser image mentions the DM-i technology that the upcoming SUV will offer.
DM-i stands for “Dual Mode, Intelligent” plug-in hybrid technology that BYD will be offering in the SUV. From the silhouette, it is clear that the vehicle being launched tomorrow is going to be the Sealion 6. The DM-i tech in the BYD is designed with an “electric-first” philosophy, the system relies primarily on a large electric motor and Blade battery for city driving.

BYD had showcased the Sealion 6 at the Auto Expo last year, and we have also seen images of the test mule on Indian roads. The BYD Sealion 6 is 4,775 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, and 1,670 mm tall. It also has a wheelbase of 2,765 mm. It gets a conventional SUV-like design with typical BYD design elements. There are sleek LED headlamps with LED DRLs and a sporty-looking bumper with parking sensors and cameras.
Unlike many Chinese cars, the Sealion 6 gets regular pull-type door handles, alloy wheels, and so on. At the rear, the SUV comes with an integrated spoiler, LED tail lamps with a connecting LED bar, and more.
The Sealion 6 is likely to be offered as a premium SUV, and the cabin of the SUV is designed to look like one. It is offered in tan and black or off-white and black, with silver trim on the dashboard and centre console, along with soft-touch materials. The SUV comes with leatherette upholstery, a three-spoke steering wheel, a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment touchscreen, while the driver gets a 12.3-inch digital display.
Like most Chinese brands, BYD has also worked extensively on the safety aspect. It will be offered with seven airbags, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), a 360-degree camera, a 10-speaker sound system, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child-seat mounts, and more.

The BYD Sealion 6 in international markets is available with 1.5-litre naturally aspirated and turbo-petrol engine options. Both engine options are paired with either an 18.3 kWh or a 26.6 kWh battery pack. The naturally aspirated version of the SUV generates 218 PS, which is sent to the front wheels. The bigger battery variant is offered with the turbo-petrol engine, which generates 324 PS to 344 PS. Both engine options offer a combined driving range of over 1,000 km. It remains to be seen which variant BYD will actually launch in India. The price of the Sealion 6 is expected to be in the Rs 35 lakh to Rs 45 lakh bracket.
