2026 FIFA World Cup Group B Predictions; What Will Group B Look Like
We are just days away from the biggest sporting extravaganza in the world, as the FIFA World Cup 2026 will kick off on Thursday, June 11 (June 12 IST). The competition will be hosted by the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico and will be the biggest edition of the tournament yet, with 48 teams participating.
These 48 teams, several of them having qualified for the World Cup for the first time, have been divided into 12 groups of four teams each.
Each side will go up against the other in a group once. After each team has played their three games, the nations that finish in the top two in their group will qualify for the Round of 32. But that just gives us 24 teams, leaving eight more qualification spots. And so, the eight best-performing third-placed sides will also make it to the knockout rounds.
World Cup Group B Predictions
Today, we will predict how Group B of the FIFA World Cup 2026 will shape up at the end of the group stage. This might be the tightest group in the competition, with Switzerland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Qatar, and co-hosts Canada being in it.
This is Canada’s third qualification into the FIFA World Cup, their second consecutive, and probably their easiest. They did not go through the long and arduous qualification rounds. As hosts, they found a direct ticket into the tournament.
As for Qatar, they qualified for the tournament for the first time in history in 2022, doing so as the hosts. This year, they have made it into the World Cup through qualifying rounds for the first time. After direct placement in the second round of the AFC qualification, Qatar topped their group to make it into the third round, where they finished fourth in their group to enter the fourth round. In the fifth and final round of qualifications, they topped their group to book their World Cup tickets.
Switzerland is the highest-ranked team in this group. They were in Group B of the first round of UEFA qualification alongside Kosovo, Sweden, and Slovenia. They topped that group to qualify for the FIFA World Cup for the 13th time in their history.
Finally, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Their qualification in the FIFA World Cup 2026 is only the second time they have made it into this competition. They finished second in Group H of the first round of UEFA qualification to make it to the next round. In the second and final round, 16 teams were divided into groups of four and had to win a knockout playoff. Bosnia bettered the likes of Wales and Italy to win their bracket and book their tickets to North America for the World Cup.
Now, let’s see who will make it to the Round of 32 from Group B –
Canada is not the favourite to win this group. Over the past year, they have defeated their fellow World Cup qualifiers like Uzbekistan and Venezuela in friendlies, and they have also been beaten by Australia and drawn against Ireland.
However, teams playing the World Cup at home have almost always overperformed. Team captain Alphonso Davies and striker Jonathan Davies are the standout players for the Maple Leaves. And so, they will definitely be in contention to make it out of this group.
Switzerland is the clear favourite to win this group. They have several players who have done well in top leagues across the world. Experienced players like Granit Xhaka will be backed by star players like defender Manuel Akanji, attacker Breel Embolo, and goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. In recent months, the Swiss have thrashed Jordan and have gone toe-to-toe against the likes of Germany and Norway.
Bosnia and Herzegovina defeated Italy to qualify for this tournament. This is only their second World Cup appearance, and this team is a dark-horse shout for many. Veteran attacker Edin Dzeko is the biggest name in this team and will look to close out his career with a strong showing in the World Cup.
Finally, Qatar, despite qualifying for the World Cup the hard way for the first time, is clearly the weakest team in this group. The former Asian champions have been in dismal form as of late. They failed to make it out of the group stage of the 2025 FIFA Arab Cup. They have also lost to Ireland in a friendly this year, a team not even in the World Cup.
