New Delhi:- The Neuro Surgery Department of the famous Moti Lal Nehru Medical College (MLN) of Prayagraj has done a very important and big research. This new study has revealed that even patients with dangerous stage 4 cancer can live a long life.
A total of 45 serious patients were included in this research who underwent successful operation. Doctors operated on all these patients and completely removed the tumors from their heads.
This particular study included 20 male and 25 female patients whose age was between 50 and 70 years. Head of the Department of Neuro Surgery, Dr. Pankaj Gupta and his team started this important study in the year 2020.
Molecular profiling of all these patients was done so that the exact and true causes of the disease could be found out. This excellent research has also been decided to be presented at the Neurological Society of India Icon in the year 2025.
Cancer types and tumor recurrence
In the study, mainly two types of cancer were found in the patients, out of which 10 percent of the patients had IDH mutant type cancer. Whereas in other patients, IDH wild type cancer was found which surprised the doctors.
In IDH wild-type cancer patients, no new tumors formed at all for five years. This is proving to be a very positive and important news of great success for medical science.
Process of follow up and accurate examination of patients
In patients who had IDH mutant type cancer, tumors started forming again after six months to one and a half years. Therefore, doctors regularly conducted CT scan and MRI examinations of all the patients during follow-up.
According to Dr. Pankaj Gupta, this fourth stage brain tumor is generally very malignant and fatal. But with proper molecular profiling and timely testing, patients can get great and good relief.
Important and big role of molecular profiling
This state-of-the-art molecular profiling clinical test provides in-depth and accurate analysis of the DNA and RNA present within affected cells. Through this, it becomes much easier to understand the true causes of tumor formation scientifically.
Some patients survive safely for five to seven years or even longer after the operation. If this special test is done along with biopsy of the tumor, then the disease can be controlled easily to a great extent.
A very new hope for tumor patients
According to this study, if this molecular profiling is done at the right time during the tumor then the treatment becomes much easier. With this, re-growth of tumor in the patient’s body after operation can be detected in advance.
Dr. Amit Singh, Dr. NN Gopal and Dr. Rajiv Gautam have also been mainly involved in this entire important study. This new technology has brought a huge and new positive hope in the lives of millions of patients suffering from brain tumor.
